Murthly’s Village Hall was opened on Christmas Eve 1926 with a ball for 200 people. Mrs Steuart Fothringham of Murthly Castle did the honours. She was at pains to point out how assiduously the fundraising committee of volunteers had worked since 1923 to raise most of the money. The hall was erected, equipped and finished for £2,500. Colonel Steuart Fothringham had generously made the ground available and the family made private donations, though the bulk of the work was done by the committee. The Village Hall has continued to serve generations of people living in Murthly, this has only been possible with the support of volunteers for the last 100 years.
The charter that governs the use of the hall mandates that the upkeep of hall is the responsibility of the village. This is why the village hall is dependent on fund raising activities to keep the hall fit for purpose. This led the creation of the management committee, that was registered as a charity in 1990.
The Village Hall is operated and managed by "The Village Hall, Murthly Committee of Management", which is a registered charity, We operate as a Non Profit voluntary organisation.
